Prior to the FIA World Touring Car in 2016, Cyan Polestar Racing has just unveiled the two Volvo S60 Polestar race cars which it will be entering into the racing competition.
Powering the new Volvo S60 Polestar is a brand new turbocharged four cylinder engine pumping out a total of 400 hp. Volvo of course has quite a successful history in fielding four cylinder engines in racing series around the world, most notable with the iconic 240 Turbo.
The S60 Polestar represents Polestar Cyan Racing’s first multi year programme in a world championship. The driver line up for the two cars hasn’t been released but it has been confirmed that racing drivers Bjork Thed, Ekblom Fredrik and Dahlgren Robert will aid in the development of the car.
Discussing the company’s entrance into the Touring Car Championship, chief Niels Moller said “We have chosen the FIA WTCC as our global motorsport platform as it combines the cutting edge technology of our Volvo cars with exciting racing all over the world. The championship enables us to further develop our technology and utilise development from the racing circuits directly to our products for performance oriented Volvo customers.”
Head of motorsport at Polestar Murdzevski Schedvin Alexander added to this by saying “This is a great day for all of us at Polestar Cyan Racing to announce our assault on the FIA World Touring Car Championship, a programme that boils down to one thing; to bring the world title to Sweden.”
