The new Mazda MX-5 Miata in Tokyo Auto Salon 2016. The fourth-gen Mazda hasn’t been the biggest hit back home, but Japan has embraced the new roadster with open arms, and what GReddy/TRUST unveiled today is going to have people talking for a while!
This car is the first ND to rock the new Pandem widebody kit designed by Kei Miura of TRA Kyoto. Under the arches are RAYS TE37V wheels measuring 16x8 inches up front and 16x9.5 inches in the rear. This car is ridiculously slammed but Greddy tells us it’s on their suspension using stiff 5kg front and 3kg rear spring rates. Inside, you will notice the Bride VIOS III seats with Prodrive harnesses as well as a new prototype boost gauge by Greddy.
What’s a little trippy is the front windshield surround, roll hoops, and accompanying helmet, all have the ability to light up green, kind of weird but cool at the same time. The chemistry of the paint allows itself to light up when an electric current is sent through it.
And finally, we asked Greddy to pop the hood. There’s no massive front mount intercooler suggesting the car is boosted, plus the MX-5 is already so lightweight and balanced so we weren’t expecting any major power adders. The four-cylinder received Greddy’s first turbo kit using its TD-04H 15G turbo. Since the car was finished just hours before roll in for Tokyo Auto Salon, Greddy tells us the car still needs to be properly tuned. The goal is to push around 300hp pretty good considering this is the 129hp, 1.5liter MX-5 and not the 155hp, 2.0-liter version we have in North America.
Things are looking good for this MX5 and we hope to bring you an in depth story once Greddy gets the car dialed in. Fingers crossed a 2.0liter kit will be developed next!
